The Role of Orthodontics in Interdisciplinary Treatment

Orthodontics plays a major role in the treatment of complex cases involving periodontics, prosthodontics and orthognathic surgery. With the recent advances in the field of distraction osteogenesis, problems involving three planes of space can be managed to restore function as well as facial esthetics. After the skeletal and dental components of the malocclusion are treated in such cases, restorative dentistry can be performed in harmony with the patient’s face. Treatment protocols for cases requiring dental implants and fixed prosthodontics will be explained.
